SUBSTELLAR — THE COMPLETE CREATIVE REFERENCE · EDITION 08 Repository edition · 2026-10-09 OPEN index.html with its supporting folders intact. A local HTTP server is recommended for the complete reading and verification experience. Publication on substellar.dev belongs to the separate Website integration handoff. WHAT IS HERE 244,281 narrative words across 33 exact source files and 110 chapters. The complete prior 75 chapters, 3,359 source blocks and 102 visual identities are preserved. The edition adds 35 chapters and 1,368 source blocks. The current catalogue contains 444 visual identities: 102 earlier identities, 151 new selected concept illustrations, 160 new editable SVG diagrams, and 31 unchanged published assets reused with recorded provenance. The 1,076-view historical checklist has an additive current overlay: 1,069 reference-complete dispositions and seven conditional, unselected views. These counts describe reference coverage, not individually manufactured game assets or final user approval of every new candidate. The connected scope covers the complete player journey; Earth, Moon and Mars; seven farther campaigns; industrial responsibilities and configurations; equipment and field service; ecology, food and settlements; later spacecraft; interfaces, narrative, sound and accessibility; and 76 future development briefs. The exact catalogue, source blocks, comparisons, review decisions and brief acceptance/evidence fields are available in the structured records. READING Persistent contents, a following section bar and mobile menu keep your location available. Search text or stable IDs; use related subject entrances, comparisons, the visual catalogue and full-size originals. Chapter notes are stored locally in the browser and can be exported. Later-story content requires explicit reveal. Print behavior preserves ordinary prose and respects the current spoiler choice. The current notice explains the historical introductions and pending labels without removing their original source wording. REBUILD WITHOUT GENERATION Python 3.10+ and the standard library are sufficient for the normal assembly. From this substellar folder: python sources/build_edition08.py The builder calls prepare_records_08.py before rendering and after its manifest refresh. It uses reader_07_preserved.html and exact canonical inputs, never its own previous output. New figures are already normalized: ordinary rebuilds do not require old temporary directories, networking or image generation. Optional authoring/record commands: python sources/integrate_artwork_08.py --drafts sources/art-production python sources/index_generation_08.py The integrator uses the explicitly selected registers in edition08_config.json, resolves historical authoring locations to preserved matching files, validates hashes and image/SVG structure, and retains original source section symbols. It does not judge artistic adequacy. The generation index collects retained attempts and exception records without claiming an exact billing/native-call count. Missing historical verbatim prompts remain qualified in the raw ledgers. CURRENT SOURCE GATE Install Pillow and Beautiful Soup for independent image and rendered-text checks. Use a Node 22 executable: python sources/verify_edition08.py --node /absolute/path/to/node22 \ --output sources/release-evidence/source-current.json Browser interaction is outside this source verifier and NOT RUN by that command. The original Edition 07 failed browser/download execution remains historical; later Website successes have their own source and product revision pins. READER GATE — EXACT LINUX REPRODUCTION The checked dependencies and lockfile are in sources/reader-qa/. From this folder: npm ci --prefix sources/reader-qa python -m http.server 8765 --bind 127.0.0.1 --directory . In another terminal, using the pinned Node 22 executable: sources/reader-qa/node_modules/node/bin/node sources/check_reader08.mjs \ --root . --modules sources/reader-qa/node_modules \ --url http://127.0.0.1:8765/ \ --out sources/release-evidence/reader-current The packaged Chromium recipe is a Linux maintainer environment. It does not claim a native Windows, Firefox or WebKit execution. The Website agent may use its established local toolchain and release gates, with its own evidence. Do not use --functional-only as a substitute for the required full reader gate. The reader gate checks served file bytes before interaction and rechecks the local reader/CSS/JS at completion. Use a unique evidence folder for each attempt. After a successful full source/reader run: python sources/record_release_08.py \ --source-report sources/release-evidence/source-current.json \ --browser-report sources/release-evidence/reader-current/browser_verification_08.json This small record command validates exact release hashes and the actual scored Lighthouse report, copies current gates, indexes retained evidence and generates a concise completion receipt. A timeout, error audit or null score is rejected. Oversized individual raw logs use lossless .json.gz encoding, with original and stored hashes in release-evidence/large_log_encodings_08.json. This is log storage, not a ZIP or duplicate delivery bundle. For example, recover one to standard output: python -c "import gzip,sys;sys.stdout.buffer.write(gzip.open(sys.argv[1],'rb').read())" It never runs creative approval, image generation, game work or deployment. A fresh build after verification requires fresh evidence for the changed bytes. SOURCE AND HISTORY sources/complete_direction_08.txt is the complete exact narrative collection. edition08_config.json centralizes edition values and selected source registers. edition-manifest.json, source_anchor_map_08.json and visual_catalogue_08.json provide machine-readable counts, stable blocks/anchors and complete visuals. figures_08.json preserves reviewed figure purposes, panels, references and limits. generation_index_08.json links the original prompt/attempt/rejection ledgers. coverage_08.json and current_visual_coverage_08.json explain actual coverage. coverage_evidence_index_08.json resolves all reviewed evidence to current files by stable visual ID while leaving historical authoring paths untouched. completion_backlog_08.json categorizes the remaining separate responsibilities. build_units_08.json retains all 66 original imported briefs plus ten shared units. decisions_08.json keeps approval, engineering uncertainty and implementation apart. changelog_08.md records additions without rewriting earlier history. verification_08.json, browser_verification_08.json, completion_receipt_08.json, evidence_inventory_08.json and release-evidence/ contain attributed results. website_handoff_08.md explains repository-only integration. The accepted Edition 07 payload inventory verifies 381 exact earlier files. In the current reader, 3,274 earlier source spans remain byte-identical; 85 direct subheadings add only aria-level=3. Their source text, IDs and appearance stay intact. reader_markup_corrections_08.json records the exact exception and original hashes. The 38 genuinely nested approved H4 headings retain level 4. Advancing index.html, README.txt and the manifest retains the exact earlier bytes in reader_07_preserved.html, README_07.txt and the preserved manifest. Historical scripts, source records, original artwork, IDs and R1 closures remain. IMPORTANT QUALIFICATIONS REF03 and CD05-A03 plus endorsed published page assets remain visual authorities. New selections are maintainer-reviewed concept candidates; final user approval, measured engineering fit, production meshes and implemented gameplay are separate. Rich Minecraft geometry and weathered pixel materials remain the visual language. Recipes, numeric balance, item/material equivalence, simultaneous Explorer fit, vehicle transport and unresolved engineering specifications require their stated future evidence. CEC01 remains unselected; Mars works without that ecology. HUL02-SEP, HUL05-SEP, HUL06-SEP and FAM01-X also remain genuinely conditional. The destination roster is finite; atlas-only bodies are not added campaigns. Game source authority remains a0a702c2b5788d099645ab55ad23d8a5bf45c137 and launcher authority e2a7137a53a1737166158d8dee59ca2137d2d64c at the accepted pin. Smelt remains unbuilt at that pin. Inspect then-current authority before any future game planning. Shader-off policy, maturity labels, simulated downloads and manual synchronization remain. This reference authorizes no game BUILD. DELIVERY Use the external append-only Edition 08 handoff for the exact source commit and its separate record commit. An available source branch is not a merged or deployed Website revision. No ZIP or duplicate delivery archive is produced.
