# SUBSTELLAR — handoff to the Website agent

**Snapshot:** Illustrated Overview 03, with Reader Update 04.
**Handoff date:** 7 October 2026, America/Edmonton.
**Scope:** the complete current creative/product-direction document website, its source writing, artwork, diagrams, planning data, and rebuild files.

This is a usable source package for the separate website workstream. Further document refinements may follow; they do not prevent website structure, content mapping, design, or already-authorised website implementation from starting now. The documentation agent remains the creative-direction maintainer.

The supplied snapshot is not evidence of game implementation, a release commitment, or a claim that every individual visual task is finished. The original text is approved; later material retains the proposal and review labels recorded in its sources. Preserve those distinctions when communicating the project publicly.

## Start here

Read `WEBSITE_AGENT_PROMPT.txt` for the complete task brief, then `README.txt` for the document website's use and rebuild instructions. Open `index.html` for the ten illustrated reading guides and the full reference edition. No server or account is needed to read the extracted folder.

For systematic reading or ingestion, use `sources/complete-direction.txt`. It contains the seven text sources in one file. The combined text is a reading convenience; the separately named sources and their recorded hashes provide the stronger basis for comparison across editions. Do not treat a search snippet or the overview guide alone as the complete direction.

All paths below are relative to this `substellar/` folder. The ZIP attachment is the portable handoff. No remote repository location or cross-agent filesystem access was established in this workstream. If another workspace already contains the same package, verify its edition before reusing it.

## What is included

| Material | Current coverage |
| --- | --- |
| Full writing | 90,735 source words, 45 chapters, 1,678 source blocks, 58 source tables |
| Overview | All ten document-production slices complete at balanced illustrated-overview depth |
| Distinct visuals | 50: 31 raster originals plus 19 editable SVG figures |
| Confirmed artwork | All 15 supplied reference sheets preserved among the raster originals |
| Additional overview concepts | Eight new boards from the previous illustration slice; no further image generation in Reader Update 04 |
| Display files | 31 WebP copies; these are alternate files for the same raster visuals |
| Total artwork files | 81: 31 original PNGs, 31 display WebPs, 19 SVGs |
| Source formats | The approved DOCX, seven separate full text sources, combined text, structured registers and editorial data |
| Rebuild | A Python standard-library HTML builder, its inputs, CSS, JavaScript, parser, and figure-generation scripts |
| Verification | Source/art preservation, links, focused navigation logic, portable rebuild, and package checks; browser interaction remains unverified |

The ten overview slices cover the reading structure; diagrams/workflows/interfaces; Old Valley, the Quarry, and the first workshop; Earth/world generation; Moon/Mars; farther worlds/Afterlight; industry; resources/equipment; living landscapes; and Tier 1 hardware/missions. Moon and Mars already have detailed full-text expansions, rather than only image placeholders.

| Reader update and preservation evidence | `reviews/reader_update_04.json`, `reviews/validation_reader_update_04.json` |

The historical project inspection describes only the workspace available when it was written. Its finding that no mod project was available does not establish whether an implementation exists elsewhere. Its older documentation counts are historical, not the current package totals.

## Navigation and status changes in this snapshot

Reader Update 04 adds a fixed current-reading bar, chapter/subsection context, a section selector, previous/next controls, section-link copying, and within-chapter progress. The contents highlight the active section and reveal it while Follow reading is on; Locate and Follow controls let the reader choose how the contents behave.

The earlier sidebar was fixed, but its tracker missed most nested sections and did not bring the active entry into view. The replacement covers all 435 distinct valid contents targets. Source text, existing anchors, saved-note identities, and all artwork were preserved. Eight focused navigation-logic tests passed. Responsive browser interaction should be tested by the Website agent in its own supported environment before being described as verified.

`current_visual_coverage.json` supplies 14 exact current-coverage mappings: twelve interface layouts and two opening boards. The historical commissioning records are retained. Do not read their older statuses in isolation, and do not interpret the 1,076-record register as a requirement to generate that many additional images. Shared boards provide representative coverage without completing all individual model, region, pose, or operating-state views.

## How to use this source in the website repository

Audit the website repository and its plan before proposing changes. Use the direction to reconsider the site's information architecture, content, navigation, visual language, and roadmap presentation. A useful result includes a source-to-page mapping, existing assumptions to revise, and prioritised website slices with explicit completion criteria.

Retain this imported snapshot and original assets in a versioned source area under the repository's established conventions. If the repository has no convention, a possible location is `docs/substellar-direction/snapshots/illustrated-03-reader-04/`, with separate reconciliation reports under `docs/substellar-direction/reports/`. These are proposed locations, not folders already created in the separate website repository. Adapt them to the actual project and report the final paths.

Derived website pages may summarise the direction for visitors, but keep the full reference material available. Preserve source IDs, figure IDs, and deep links, or supply a documented mapping when the website needs different URLs. Preserve confirmed artwork as the appearance reference. Report proposed source edits to the documentation maintainer rather than silently replacing confirmed direction.

Useful reports include a source-to-website crosswalk; conflicts and changed assumptions; unresolved choices and recommendations; the website backlog; and an integration note explaining where the snapshot lives and how future editions are incorporated. Use the project's existing report formats when available. Each finding should name the source path/section/asset, the problem or opportunity, the recommendation, its approval status, and the affected website area.

## Remaining document work and ownership

Two document-finishing slices are recommended: a review workspace with more precise section/visual feedback, and a consolidated current-direction reading edition with traceable source history. These are recommendations for subsequent work, not features already implemented in this snapshot.

Optional expansions include stronger visual comparison/presentation tools, selected detailed concept or explanatory plates, and deeper treatment of chosen worlds, machine families, or later-tier systems. They are not prerequisites to use the current overview. Final Tier 1 scale/cabin fit, the assembly-station form, and conditional concepts such as the Mars brine mat should retain their explicit decision status where relevant.

The Website agent can proceed with website work under its existing authorisation while this document is maintained separately. Keep document-production tasks, website implementation tasks, and actual mod-development tasks distinct. Actual mod development still requires the user's explicit **BUILD** approval. No additional image generation is included in this handoff.
